Altar Servers

Children who have received their First Communion are invited to participate in training to become an Altar Server (Acolyte). This class consists of four, one hour training sessions and is held annually.

Children learn about the Altar Server’s role assisting the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist and other liturgies. The training celebrates the children’s unique opportunity to serve their parish in this very special way. Special emphasis is placed on understanding liturgical etiquette; the sacred vessels; the sacramentals in our church and Jesus’ call for all of us to serve. Specifics of the class dates and times are announced through our parish website, parish bulletin, Mass announcements, our Frackville Catholic Youth FaceBook page and CCD parent letters. There is a commissioning of our new altar servers at a Sunday Mass following their completion of the training. There is no cost to participate. All altar servers receive an alb (white robe) to use while serving, and are placed on a rotating schedule for serving at Mass. Registration is required and details are always provided when a new class is forming. Parish altar servers are encouraged to serve through grade 12. Altar Server classes are coordinated by Ms. Eileen Barlow.
